Jess Moskaluke On Winning a JUNO for Country Album of the Year
Jess Moskaluke won Country Album of the Year at the 2017 JUNO Awards for Kiss Me Quiet. The country star shares her initial reaction when her name was called.
TC: Congrats on your first JUNO award! What went through your head the moment they called your name?
JM: I thought Chad won!! Before I knew what was happening he was roaring “YES!!” and standing up next to me waiting for a hug haha.
Considering, the announcer read her name out as “Jess Makulock“, we don’t blame her! Watch the announcement and her acceptance speech here.
TC: Other than winning Country Album of The Year, what was your favourite part of the 2017 JUNOs?
JM: I loved being a part of the music scene. Being able to represent country music in a room full of every other genre was a pretty cool realization.
TC: What song are you most proud of on Kiss Me Quiet?
JM: I think “Take Me Home”. I could’ve never imagined it would have the power that it did to resonate with fans to that degree. As well as a track we never did get to release as a single, “Good For You”.
TC: How did you celebrate the big win?
My team and I had a glass of wine, some champagne, and then I took off my makeup, put on some sweats, and watched Letterkenny in bed. (Hey, I was tired!)
TC: What piece of advice do you have for aspiring Canadian country artists?
Make sure you love it. This job is far from a 9-5. It’s a 24/7, 365 job that consumes you, so it HAS to be your passion. Or you won’t be happy!
TC: How did you pick your outfit? Tell us about it!
I found it at Bebe and completely fell in love it with! I took it home and had my mama sew some lace on it so it was covering a little more, had her shorten it up for me, and voila. Dress.

TC: Who would you give the award for Best Dressed at the JUNO Awards?
JM: I loved how casual Alessia Cara was. She looked beautiful and comfortable just the way she was.

I think it’s no secret, but, Shania Twain!
