Pick of the Week: Samara Yung’s “Stone”

This week’s Pick of the Week is the new single from Samara Yung“Stone”! Watch the lyric video and read our Q&A with her below!

Q: Tell us a bit about your new single “Stone”.

A: I like to say that “Stone” would be a song baby to Alanna Miles’ “Black Velvet” and Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats”. I love the feeling and the attitude of the song and it’s  just so much fun to sing. It’s about a girl whose boyfriend is cheating on her and she knows it but is waiting for the best time to confront him about it. Not to mention that the boyfriend is the jealous type who gets mad at her for talking to other guys. What’s she’s saying to him is all about how you can’t be so quick to throw stones when your sinning as well.

Q: What was the songwriting process for it like? How did it come to be?

A: Well I actually didn’t write this song but its one of those songs that I wish I had! It was actually pitched to us by some amazing songwriters out of Nashville. Emily Weisband, Cameron Bedell and Hanna Ellis

Q: What’s a specific line or lyric from it that you particularly love?

A: That’s a tough one because every line in the song is part of the story but I think the sell for me is either the “find my flaws, dig up my dirt, and tell me who’s worse” or “come on baby tell me can you throw the first stone” I feel like they are both so relatable.

Q: How was Country Music Week for you? Looks like you were busy!

A: You bet I was! I had an AMAZING time in Edmonton, catching up with everyone and performing and not to mention meeting new people! I have been attending the CCMAs for 8 years and it just keeps getting better and better! Working with Tom Jackson this year was definately a highlight for me and a dream come true. I can’t wait to apply his insights to our live shows!

Q: What else do you have coming up that fans can look forward to?

A: I have a little bit of a tour coming up with another Saskatchewan country artist, Codie Prevost, and we are still in and out of the studio building the album which will be released early next year. So stay tuned on my Facebook, website and other social media spots for the latest info!
