Q&A with newcomers Robyn & Ryleigh

RobynandRyleigh

Top Country caught up with newcomers Robyn and Ryleigh to chat about their recent single, new album and we premiere their new video for ‘Just Another Sundown’.

Q

You’re new to the Canadian music scene. What do you want the fans to know about you first and foremost?

A

Robyn and Ryleigh: Well, first off – we want the fans to know that they definitely chose the right genre to listen to!
We also really want the fans to know that we are true country girls; everything about the country lifestyle has always made us happy. We love it all – whether it’s playing country music, working on cars, or quadding. There’s never a dull moment. Some people have said we should have our own reality show, but we don’t want to scare anyone away… We are a lot of fun!
These days, we’re super excited about the release of our new single, “Just Another Sundown”, to Canadian radio through Raincoast Music and MDM Recordings. It’s our own take on a great Steven Lee Olsen tune.

Q

You recently shot your first video for your single “Just Another Sundown”.  What was your favourite part of the process?

A

Robyn and Ryleigh: The whole process of shooting the video was amazing! From waking up in the early hours of the morning to get to hair and makeup, living off of Refreshers from Starbucks to keep us alert, performing on a rooftop, and finally packing up all of the equipment and falling asleep at 5am… there are no words to properly describe it. Everything was exciting. We would do it every single day if we could. Our favourite part was definitely the location because it gave us a different view of beautiful Vancouver and allowed us to sing 22 storeys above the city. We’re excited to show it all off.

Q

What is your most memorable moment to date in your career?

A

Robyn and Ryleigh: All of our memorable moments have been on stage. Every time we perform, something amazing happens. Playing at the Winter Olympics and the BCCMAs were great moments, but one of the most memorable was at an outdoor show in the BC Fraser Valley. We were the last act to go on stage and all of a sudden it started to rain… then hail…. then thunder and lightning… all while we were performing! The audience kept going like it was completely sunny with clear blue skies. They danced and sang along in the pouring rain in t-shirts and tank tops until a spotlight blew up! Then we were forced to stop before we got electrocuted. You know what they say – “Go out with a bang!”

Q

When can we expect an album?

A

Robyn and Ryleigh: Our self-titled album will be out on July 17th! We’ll be announcing the official release date on RobynandRyleigh.com. The theme of the album is love and heartbreak. Everything we’ve experienced has a song, everything we feel has a song. There is a song for every emotion and we want to touch others with this album the same way music has touched us. After the album is released, we’ll be on tour and then we want to travel to Nashville to do some co-writing and take in the country surroundings.

Q

You’re from the West Coast. What’s your favourite part about west coast living?

A

Robyn and Ryleigh: Without a doubt, it’s the beauty of it. We wake up every day thinking about how lucky we are to be in such a beautiful place. We can look to the right and see a farm and then look to the left and see the city. It’s the best of both worlds.

TC’s Fun 5

1. The song you can’t stop listening to:
Robyn: White Liar by Miranda Lambert
Ryleigh: Boys ‘Round Here by Blake Shelton featuring Pistol Annies

2. Celebrity crush?
Robyn: Channing Tatum, and more recently Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line!
Ryleigh: Shia LaBeouf, Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Robert Downey Jr., Eric Church… oh crap was I only supposed to pick one?

3. All-time favourite movie?

Robyn: Moulin Rouge!
Ryleigh: Transformers and the Harry Potter movies! I couldn’t tell you how many times I have watched these.

4. Pizza or pasta?
Robyn: Pizza all the way. Add meat… lots.
Ryleigh: Both. But I am going to admit something really weird – when I have pasta, I put white vinegar on it.

5. Beach or mountains?
Robyn: I love going to the beach and laying in the sun…. but there is seriously nothing better than hiking up a mountain, pitching a tent, and starting a campfire.
Ryleigh: I like the beach but I also like hiking… so I’m going to have to pick both again.
