Get ready for a Road Trip

by Adria DeLaune

Spring has sprung and the clocks have been set forward so make the most of the extra hour of daylight and embrace your sense of adventure!  This month, Top Country gives you our favorites in road trip gear and apparel.  Go ahead, pack a bag, hook up the Airstream and hit the open road.

Mountainsmith Travel Trunk Duffel Bag

Speaking of bags, finding one that will hold all of your travel gear and still not take up much space in your trunk or storage compartment is key.  We love the Mountainsmith Travel Trunk Duffel Bag(Altrec, $59.95) because it holds everything you need and can take a beating.  You’ll be using this one for years to come.

Ladies, just because you’re on the road and out exploring wide open spaces doesn’t meant you can’t do it in style.  A pair of Roll-Up Straight Leg Pants ($30 at Reitmans) are light enough to be comfortable, even on a cross-country trip.  They also turn into capris, saving you from packing an extra pair of pants and leaving room for other things you may need on the road.  Use this as an opportunity to bring a few more books to read on the trip.

A Short Sleeve Scoopneck Tee is a steal at $12 (also from Reitmans) and won’t look sloppy, should you stop somewhere for lunch or directions.  For cooler nights around the campfire, throw on the Yoh Yoh Hoodie from Bench ($88.99 from The Bay) and roast marshmallows.

Guys, we’re not leaving you out.  This fun but functional Classic Moose Tee (Moosejaw, $19.99) will leave fellow road warriors smiling as you pass them.  Pair it with some uber-comfortable Mountain Equipment Co-Op Hunter Pants (Mountain Equipment Co-Op, $42) and you’re ready to go.

You’ll want to capture every moment, even the embarrassing ones, so don’t forget to bring along a camera.  Leica’s D-LUX5 Compact Digital Camera ($799 USD, Amazon) will document all of the good times and amazing memories you’ll be making.

If you have a tendency to get lost but don’t want to admit it, try a GPS like the Garmin eTrex ($295, Mountain Equipment).  But don’t rely on it too much…sometimes getting lost is half the fun!

No good road trip is complete without a soundtrack, so make sure your mp3 player is fully stocked with our Top Ten Road Trip songs!
