Small Town Pistols Q&A

SmlTownPistolsQ&A

Q

You’ve transitioned yourselves back to performing together. Describe making music with a sibling.

A

Tyler – Seriously its one of the coolest experiences ever. We always work so well together and I think its because we are kind of like twins. We get the same things and feel music in the same way.
Amanda – It might have been a bit different when we were really young.  But we’ve always had friendship and a creative partnership where we fire at the same level.  We just get each other.  And after all these years we have no filter with one another.  Which is really important when your trying to make music…especially in the writing process.  To not hold back.

Q

What’s your favourite song on your new record?

A

Tyler – I think mine changes daily (HAHA) but today its Mountain’s Daughter. Writing this song with my dad and Alyssa Bongura made me stretch beyond just writing about emotion and truth. I really had to stretch in imagination and truly invision the world around an urban legend that we were creating.  Then in the studio it was a question of how to bring the feeling and eeriness of this song to life.  The whole experience making this song was a ride for me
Amanda – I really love a song called ‘Peter Pan’ or ‘Easy as Breathing’….Both very personal songs for me to write on completely different levels.  The magic about making music, is that now that the album is out there are the singles are out there, people are familiar with these songs.  They are making them their own story now…

Q

If you could have a music career modeled like someone else’s, who would it be?

A

Tyler – I think I would have to go with Paul McCartney. He has been truly iconic his whole entire career and created INCREDIBLE music and stayed true to who we was as an artist
Amanda –  I love Dolly Parton…For not caring what people think about her, really…For embracing her uniqueness and using it like a tool.  And for her songwriting talents.  I also love Reba for her insane business savvy.  But ultimately I would have to say someone even like Jay Z.  Who has dominated the music industry in all aspects, and runs a label…..I know for Ty and I we have know what its been like to be artists on the flip side for so many years.  It would be nice to mentor young artists and watch them grow.

Q

Where would you like to see yourselves in a year?

A

Tyler – Having the opportunity to continue make music and tour
Amanda – Amen. It would be great to bring our music to as many places/countries as we possibly can.
