Tara Oram’s Twitter account hacked

Country star Tara Oram had her Twitter account compromised earlier this week.  For a short time Wednesday night, someone who boasted of having possession of Oram’s cellphone was sending out tweets from Oram’s official Twitter account and revealing purportedly personal information. Tweet topics ranged from Oram’s taste in music and movies to comments on pictures of her dog. The pirated account also revealed the singer’s supposed cellphone number, leaving out the last two digits, and said the phone included contact information for other artists, including Taylor Swift. Other tweets called for “hot” and “cute” boys to send messages and promised that anyone who replied to tweets would be let in on ‘secrets.’

Apparently someone with access to Oram’s account had left her Twitter logged in, and the hacker, realizing whose account they were looking at, started tweeting. But nearly as soon as the messages started appearing country music fans started leaving warning messages on Oram’s official Facebook group. One person posted “Hey Tara, not sure if you’ll get this or not but your Twitter account has been hacked and they’re about 20 tweets away from releasing your phone number and Taylor Swift’s.”

After the offending tweets were removed, messages started appearing on Oram’s Facebook and Twitter from her management and the singer herself. “Wowie. Some interesting tweets went out. Sorry guys,” said one tweet. Another message said, “Twitter hacker: Bon voyage you creep! Thanks everyone for your help!”

Oram’s manager, Ron Kitchener of RGK Entertainment, said he is still trying to figure out exactly how the account was pirated and that you can’t be too careful with your personal info. “Goes to show you how protective one needs to be of their access information in the social media age,” he said.
