TC Exclusive Interview with Wes Mack

Wes Mack‘s self-titled EP is now available and we had the chance to chat with him all about it. He will be hitting the road on June 5th with Shania Twain and you can also catch Wes this summer at the Havelock Jamboree, Cavendish, Craven and Boots and Hearts. We can’t wait to see what other great things 2015 has in store for Wes Mack!

TC: What is the main thing that you want your fans to take from your new EP?

WM: I started working on my EP in 2012 so it’s an opportunity for me to show fans the journey that I’ve been on the last few years. I’ve created songs that truly encapsulate certain moments in my life. The world can now take it as they want to no matter what journey they are on personally.

TC: Who are you most excited to perform with this summer?

WM: I’m a huge fan of Eric Church so I’m definitely excited for Boots & Hearts but I’d have to say Shania. I grew up listening to her music and she’s been a legend ever since I first heard of her. She really opened up the country genre in a way it hadn’t been before. You may not know country, but you know Shania Twain!

TC: What are three things you can’t live without while you’re out on tour?

WM: Pants! Gotta have great pants! Also a camera to capture the memories and a book. I have four books on the go right now, A Brief History In Time, Quantum – I’m always in to physics, Blue Mars and the fifth Game of Thrones.

TC: Top Country Moment?

WM: My Top country moment would have to be the first time I opened for Florida Georgia Line. Nobody had any idea who I was and I’ve never heard a crowd so loud in my life, it was amazing. Also the time I saw Dierks Bentley play in 2008 on the Coca-Cola Stage in Calgary. I went home the next day and wrote my very first country song. Watching him was such an experience and inspired me like nothing else had before. I was so impressed by the degree of showmanship that Dierks and his band had, it made me want to be part of it all.

TC: Top piece of advice?

WM: Really focus on songwriting and finding the right songs above anything else. There is a tendency to see someone else succeed and to want to try and do the same things in order to achieve success. However, it is so important to find your own sound. You can spend a huge amount of time and money but if you don’t have the songs or know what your sound is it won’t matter. In 2012, I looked at my album and I knew it wasn’t good enough. I decided to stop going on tour and just focus on writing. That’s when doors started opening instead of me having to bang on them. Also- make sure you really think about what you want to do in life. It could be a career goal, relationship or even just being happy, condense it down to what the core of that looks like instead of the bells and whistles. Above all the flash, social media, videos, touring, merch etc… it’s all in the music.
