The Lovelocks Talk New Single and First Headline Tour

The Lovelocks Talk New Single and First Headline Tour

2016 has been a knockout year for The Lovelocks (MDM Recordings Inc. / Universal Music Canada), a female roots-country duo comprised of Ali Raney and Zoë Sparrow.

You may remember them from winning the 2014 Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Discovery Series, as well as a few CCMA Award nominations for Roots Artist of the Year.

Their newest album ‘Born To Love’ EP was released in March 2016. “Home Sweet Home” dazzled Canadian country music fans becoming the #1 selling single by a Canadian country artist (week of January 25, 2016), and hit #2 on the top 50 Canadian viral list on Spotify.

Most recently, they debuted their new single for “Time After Time”. Check out their story behind the song here:

You just started your first ever headlining tour. How have the first couple of shows gone?

The first couple of shows have gone really well, thank you! We’ve had a lot of fun seeing friends and fans as we travel across western Canada, and have had the pleasure of playing some great rooms, including the West End Cultural Centre in Winnipeg, The Artful Dodger in Regina, and The Bassment in Saskatoon. We are feeling very spoiled!

What do you do when your show is double booked with a book launch about climate change?

Haha. You just roll with it! This happened to us the other night when our venue had been double booked unknowingly to us! It’s always a bonus when you can learn about climate change from an unexpected “opener”, isn’t it?! Our fans were awesome that night and stuck around, so it was all good. We had a great time!

What’s the funniest thing that’s happened on tour so far?

We have been doing Facebook Live sessions every night called “Tour Diaries” which relives each day on the road of the #BornToLoveTour. It’s basically a pajama party with our fans after our every show where we tell stories about our time in each city, answer some burning questions, and share some belly laughs. We look forward to it every day!

What’s your pre-performance ritual?

Ali and I often huddle before we get up on stage and take a moment to be thankful for the opportunity to do what we do.

Who does all the driving?

We share it, half and half! Big Bertha (our van) has become our home away from home on this tour.

So far ‘Home Sweet Home’ has been your top digital single. Does this translate to the stage?

Our song “Home Sweet Home” is definitely a fan favourite in our live show, as it’s the song that people seem to know the most. We love seeing people sing along to it! Some other favourites are always “Dance” and our current single, “Time After Time”. We gotta be honest though, people are also digging our sassier songs, “Call the Doctor” and “I Do Not”, too! We’ve also had the chance to try out some new material, which has been super fun.

What is your stage set up?

On this tour, we have a 4 piece band, including Ali and I on vocals, fiddle, and acoustic guitar! We have also debuted some other instruments, including the handy dandy tambourine and the xylophone. For a small band, we sure do make a lot of noise! :)
