Country music icon Willie Nelson plans to beat the system by purchasing a home in the Netherlands in the next year, so he can continue to buy marijuana legally in that country. Nelson wants to get in ahead of time to secure himself a spot as a resident in a country that is well-known for its lenient narcotics policies.
Dutch officials plan to outlaw “drug tourism” in 2013; therefore non-residents would be unable to buy marijuana in order to crackdown on smuggling.
In an interview with Mojo Magazine, when asked if he would boycott the Netherlands when this new legislation kicks in, Nelson said, “No, I’ll just rent me an apartment when I go over there so I’ll be a resident. Or if I have to, I’ll buy a place.”
