Country songs that are perfect for single people

Oh Valentine’s Day – a day of chocolates, teddy bears, candy hearts, flowers, cards, sweet messages and most importantly, “I love you’s”. For those of us who are in a relationship, Valentine’s Day is a wonderful celebration of love and commitment; a reminder that we were lucky enough to find our soulmates. For those of us who who are not in a relationship, Valentine’s Day is a horrible reminder of that very fact – we’re alone.

Whether you recently suffered through a brutal breakup or divorce, are stuck in a purely platonic relationship with the love of your life, or just haven’t had a date in years, Valentine’s Day is just a big fat reminder that you will not be celebrating with chocolates, teddy bears, candy hearts, flowers, cards, sweet messages, and worst of all, “I love you’s”.

But before you get all sad and sulky and break out that bottle of wine, let me be the one to cheer you up a little by reminding you that Valentine’s Day does not have to be about romantic love. No, the day of love can be about the love for your parents, your grandparents, your siblings, your best friend, you hilarious co-worker, your cat, heck, even that bottle of wine you’re holding.

In case that didn’t cheer you up and you’re still not convinced that Valentine’s Day is a great holiday, here are 5 country songs that are perfect for single people (that’s you!). These songs will make you feel empowered and ready to take on the world by yourself. At the very least you’ll be belting out the lyrics with everything you’ve got.

  1. Bush Party – Dean Brody

Sometimes all you need to get away from the Valentine’s Day madness is a good ol’ fashioned party anthem! Dean Brody’s upbeat and toe-tapping song will make you want to call up your closest pals, grab a couple of beers and party until the sun comes up.

2.  Stronger Beer – Tim Hicks

Finally, a song that isn’t about love or romance. Hick’s song highlights all of the differences between Canada and the United States. So if you happen to be alone this Valentine’s Day in Canada, you can celebrate the fact that you might not have a partner, but at least you’ve got strong beer!

3. Alive – Madeline Merlo

A Powerful anthem, “Alive” is all about taking risks, following your own path and not letting anything, or anyone, stop you. It’s the perfect reminder that on Valentine’s Day – and every other day – the only person that can truly make you feel happy and complete – is you.

4. Life’s About to Get Good – Shania Twain

Just a little reminder that no matter how broken down and crappy you might feel, you won’t feel like that forever. As Shania reminds us, “Life’s about joy, life’s about pain,” and it’s also about to get good.

5. Friends in Low Places – Garth Brooks

And finally, if all else fails, just remember that you’ll always have friends in low places that can pick you up when you’re feeling down.
