Fresh Find: Jordan McIntosh

JordanMcIntosh

Top Country recently got the chance to interview Jordan McIntosh, a 17 year old up-and-coming country artist from Ottawa, Ontario. Check out the interview below to learn about the inspiration behind his current single, “Grew Up In A Country Song” and what he’s got coming up next.

Q:

Who do you consider to be some of your biggest musical influences?

A:

I am influenced by different artists for different reasons. I love song writing, it’s one of my favourite past times, and one person that I look to when writing is Taylor Swift. She writes all of her own music and is a genius at it, it’s fun to try and decode her song-writing process. On the performance side of things, I really look up to Luke Bryan. He just knows how to captivate an entire audience and has stage presence like no other.

Q:

Describe the inspiration behind your current single, “Grew Up In A Country Song”.

A:

The inspiration behind this song is simple… it’s about the town that I grew up in. I went into a writing session with Heather Longstaffe and Johnny Gates and they asked me what I wanted to write about. I instantly knew that I wanted and needed a song about where I am from. The places and people in Carleton Place have really helped shape who I am today. We just took that idea, ran with it and ended up with a song that I am extremely proud of.

Q:

You’re performing at this year’s Boots & Hearts Festival – what are you most excited about?

A:

First, I still can’t believe I am performing at such an amazing country music festival. It is going to be the weekend of a lifetime. I think the part I’m most excited about is being surrounded by some of the most talented people in country music. As a new artist it’s always a pleasure to get to connect with the people who have been inspirations in my career. The best part is everyone in the country music community is incredibly heart-warming and inviting, so you never feel small or like you don’t belong.

Q:

What do you have coming up that fans should look forward to?

A:

I just released my single, “Grew Up In A Country Song,” so I am currently out and about promoting that. The music video for the single is getting released to CMT and I am very excited for people to finally get to see it. I have been travelling down to Nashville to write and record for my debut album, which is coming along great. Fans can always check my Twitter and Facebook for updates on my album, upcoming shows, and anything else I have going on.

 TC’S FUN FIVE:

1.       The country you would most like to visit?

I really want to visit Australia. Every picture I’ve seen looks amazing. I also have had fans from Australia write to me on Twitter and Facebook asking me to come visit. I definitely hope to go one day soon.

2.       Celebrity crush?

Carrie Underwood. For two reasons… her voice and those legs. And I’ve also heard she’s a really nice person which is an added bonus.

3.       The song you can’t stop listening to right now?

“Aw Naw” by Chris Young. My friends and I are obsessed with it. We rock out to it almost everyday.

4.       Favourite movie?

I don’t know if I have a favourite. I’ve seen too many good movies to pick just one but I just saw “This Is The End” with one of my buds and it was hilarious. I’m a big fan of comedy so I’m always up for a good laugh.

 5.       Cats or dogs?

Dogs. I like cats but I’ve always had a better relationship with dogs. My family has had the same dog for almost 14 years now, his name is Tugger, and he was named after Ron Tugnutt who is coincidentally my guitar players’ hockey coach.
