Pick of the Week: The Orchard’s “She Don’t Play Fair”

TheORCHARD

This week’s Pick of the Week is the new single from The Orchard, “She Don’t Play Fair”! Take a listen and check out our Q&A with them below!

Q: Tell us a about your new single “She Don’t Play Fair”.

A: We just recently released it to radio and on iTunes. We’re  really excited about the new material, we worked really hard at writing these new tunes together. “She Don’t Play Fair” is our first single off the new album coming out on August 26th, 2014.

Q: What was the songwriting process for it like?

A: At the time, Mitch was reading and writing a lot dark material. The spark came from envisioning this strong female lead, who was pretty rough around the edges and grew up as a single child with her father raising her up on a farm down south. The story escalates when her dad is out with a load on the highway and the female lead gets a visitor looking to get his hands on her.. Well, he gets far from that, and before you know it she’s disappeared before she can get busted.

Mitch had a fitting riff and song outline, and when Kasha started putting the vocals together, we knew it was right for this album. Crowd reactions in live settings was just the icing on the cake.

Q: What’s a specific line or lyric from it that you particularly love?

A: We both love the last line “forgive me father I have sinned”. In original demos, this was not a part of the song. It was the missing piece that both agreed upon, cool line to go into the chorus and take the song out with.

Q: Are there any words you hate to use in songs?

A: Don’t really have any.

Q: What have you got coming up this year that fans can look forward to?

A: We’re really excited to release our new album, get out on the road to play some summer festivals and tour dates. As well of course the CCMA’s in Edmonton this year. We’ll have some contests coming up as well. So check out our new website www.theorchardmusic.com to find out more.
