Kylee Epp is no stranger to the Canadian country music scene. She spent a few years touring as Jessie Farrell‘s acoustic guitar player and background vocalist. However, Kylee is making a name for herself with a brand of country music all her own. The Qualicum Beach, BC native most recently took home the BC Country Music Association’s Ray McCauley Rising Award.

Releasing her first self-titled EP earlier this month, Epp showcases her soulful, pop influenced identity as a country music artist. The album’s first single ‘Be Your Girl’, which had her fresh sound being played right across the country on several stations including CMT Canada, which spun the video for the upbeat story of a girl stuck in “the friend zone”.

A true gem on the EP is ‘You Will’, a powerful mid-tempo number, which showcases her chops for powerhouse vocals soaked in raw emotion. All six songs on the album deliver something for every mood, including ‘Run’, which could be one of those songs that make the accelerator on your car go well above the speed limit. It’s definitely got that lead-foot affect.

The highlight of the album for me is without a doubt ‘Built To Last’, which perfectly paints the picture of a girl wondering why love goes wrong and what could have been done differently. You can vividly see the video of this song in your head when you listen to the lyric; the mark of a true great writer.

Kylee Epp’s first solo release introduces to the world what she’s capable of as a singer and a songwriter…. and I’m sure we’ve only just scratched the surface. A quote from Epp’s website really says it all,  “I have put my heart and soul into this record and the pursuit of my music career. For as long as I can remember music has been my passion. I feel so lucky to be one of those people who knows what they have been placed on this earth to do.”
