Day 5: Hey Romeo – TC’s 12 Days of Christmas

Top Country’s 12 Days of Christmas featuring Canadian country artists and their favourite Christmas memories along with a gift giveaway from Lammle’s Western Wear and Tack!

Day Five

Darren Gusnowsky and Stacie Roper from CCMA Group of the Year Hey Romeo sat down with TC to chat about their favourites at Christmas.

1. What is your favourite Christmas memory?

Stacie: My favorite Christmas memory and my favourite Christmas tradition are pretty much one in the same. I don’t have one specific favorite Christmas memory, it happens every year. My whole family, aunts, uncles, cousins and some friends get together and we eat, we sing, we dance, play games, sometimes we play the purely Canadian game of curling (which I am very bad at) and we just talk. The best part is instead of bringing gifts for each other we all bring donations for the Mustard Seed Foundation. It is truly my favorite time of every year and the one tradition that I love the most.

Darren: I think it’s the same one every year. Seeing my Daughters faces and feeling their excitement when they get up Christmas morning. I would love to bottle that and have some to open all year when I’m feeling down.

2. What’s your favourite dish on your family’s Christmas menu?

Stacie: My favorite dish on the christmas menu is my moms hashbrown casserole. To die for!!!

Darren: Being that I’m a Vegetarian I’m going with my Mother in-laws eggplant parmesan, but nothing beats the aroma of turkey and stuffing filling the house.

3. What’s your all-time favourite Christmas song?

Stacie: My favorite Christmas song, there are too many!! I love Christmas songs. I think my favorite classic Christmas song is “Oh Holy Night,” but I really think my new favorite, and it’s not just because Darren wrote it, is our song “New Tradition.” It makes me cry everytime I sing it and the way that it has  touched people’s lives is truly amazing.

Darren: Tough one. I grew up Catholic so all the old church songs I love to sing, but since I’ve spent more time on the road I find myself singing “I’ll be home for Christmas” I do love Bob Dylans version of ” Must Be Santa” also.

4. What’s your favourite family Christmas tradition?

Darren: I wrote a song called “New Tradition” which came from the fact that my family didn’t really have any traditions when I grew up.  Great food was always a constant, that and spending the day with family

5. What’s the one Christmas album you couldn’t live without?

Stacie: The one Christmas album I cannot live without is probably Vince Gill’s Let there be Peace on Earth. Every song on that album is beautiful.

Darren: That’s a tough one too. Bob Dylan’s Christmas to the Heart is newer, but I find myself listening to every year. Some real good Frank Sinatra, what am I saying all his stuff is good.
