From a college football career in Ontario to No. 1 hits on both sides of the border, here’s what to know about the singer behind “Trouble,” “Single Again” and “Hate How You Look.”
Josh Ross has become one of Canada’s biggest country exports, turning a string of hits at home into chart success across the border. With more than 1.6 billion global streams, back-to-back No. 1 singles at U.S. country radio and a growing international audience, the Ontario-born singer has quickly taken his career well beyond Canada.
Where Is Josh Ross From?
Ross is originally from Waterdown, Ontario. Before pursuing music, he attended Western University with hopes of playing professional football, but injuries eventually changed the direction of his career.
After turning his attention to songwriting and performing, Ross began releasing music independently and eventually moved to Nashville in 2019 to pursue music full-time.
How Did Josh Ross Get His Start?
Ross first gained attention in Canada through independent releases before songs like “First Taste of Gone” and “On a Different Night” began appearing on Canadian country radio.
His major breakthrough came with “Trouble,” which became a chart-topping hit and earned Double Platinum certification in Canada. The song appeared on his 2024 EP Complicated, which went on to win Country Album of the Year at the 2025 JUNO Awards.
What Are Josh Ross’ Biggest Songs?
“Trouble” helped introduce Ross to audiences outside Canada, but “Single Again” took his career even further. The song reached No. 1 at both Canadian and U.S. country radio, making Ross the first solo male Canadian country artist in nearly 30 years to top the U.S. Country Airplay chart.
He followed it with another No. 1, “Hate How You Look,” giving Ross back-to-back chart-toppers on both sides of the border. Other notable releases include “On a Different Night,” “Drunk Right Now (Na Na Na),” “Kicked Out of Bars” and “Give ’Er Hell.”
Josh Ross’ Later Tonight and CCMA Success
Ross released his 15-track debut album, Later Tonight, in September 2025. His success continued at the 2026 CCMA Awards, where “Hate How You Look” earned Single of the Year and Top Selling Canadian Single of the Year. The Single of the Year win marked Ross’ third consecutive victory in the category.
What Is Josh Ross’ Latest Song?
On September 25, Ross released his latest single, “Drink Things Through.” The country-rock track was written by Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger alongside Mitchy Collins, Lazz Principato and Jeremy “Kinetics” Dussolliet, and produced by Matt Geroux.
Ross had already been testing the song during his live shows before its official release, giving fans an early taste of the track throughout the fall.
What’s Next for Josh Ross?
Following a recent U.K. headline tour, Ross is currently touring the U.S. with Dan + Shay before returning home for Canadian dates on his Later Tonight Tour this November.
