Following his win for Country Album of the Year at the 2015 JUNO Awards, Country star and multi-platinum selling artist Dallas Smith has much to celebrate, including today’s announcement of his newest venture; record label SteelHead Music. Together with partners Alex Seif (Union Entertainment Group) and Scott Cooke (Producer – Chase Rice, Cold Creek County), Smith is set to provide artists of all genres with a label home and platform to grow – giving back to the musical community that has supported him throughout his career thus far.
Armed with tenacity and poised for success, SteelHead Music revealed the label’s first signing will be Manitoba based sibling duo Petric.
“With nearly 15 years as an artist in this business I’ve been through every up and down imaginable,” said Smith. “I’m in a fortunate and unique position to offer my knowledge and support to new artists just like others did for me when I was starting out. Scott and Alex are both great friends and are very talented in what they do in this business. I’m excited to partner with them to bring new deserving artists a secure platform and home where they can learn, grow and succeed.”
Scott Cooke adds, “SteelHead music is about never settling. We are thrilled to offer our many years of expertise to artists who want to work as hard as we do.”
Hailing from Transcona, Manitoba, Petric officially formed in March 2014, but their love of music and performing for live audiences actually began when, as young teenagers, brothers Jason and Tom decided to start a band. Performing throughout middle school and high school at local community and school events, the brothers quickly found their stride in front of ever-growing audiences.
Jason decided to pursue a solo career, releasing two albums and touring as a back-up guitarist for many Manitoba acts, but Tom was never far behind and always had a hand in the projects his brother was a part of. “No matter what direction music took us individually, we always ended up on stage together,” says Jason.
After deciding to form Petric early last year, the duo has opened for such notable acts as Doc Walker and Gord Bamford and has performed at various industry events including a showcase during Country Music Week where they caught the attention of Smith and Chops.
“The voices in Petric instantly grabbed my attention,” said Smith. Both have a raw natural vocal talent that you either have or you don’t. We’re very excited to see where their careers take them and we’re even more excited to be a part of it.”
Currently working on their debut release, the boys have been back and forth between home and Nashville, where they continue to work with hit writers and producers, blending their natural sibling harmony with their party-rocking, laid back vibe.
May 25th marks the date for the broadcast premiere of Petric’s first single “Here Goes Everything” on hometown station QX104 during the “Drive at 5”.
With over 15 years in the music business, the development and launch of a label was a natural progression for Smith, whose latest album “Lifted” garnered him a number of accolades and awards including a 2015 JUNO Award, a Sirius XM Indie Award, a #1 single for “Wastin’ Gas” and the platinum certification of hit single “Tippin’ Point”.
