Blake Shelton vs. Turtles

Blake Shelton is no stranger to Twitter wars it seems. But this week, he has embroiled himself in yet another controversy due to him making a joke about deliberately killing a turtle.

On his official Twitter account on Friday, he posted, “Does anyone know if the Eastern Box turtle is protected in Oklahoma? If so I didn’t just swerve to the shoulder of the road to smash one…”

This comment set the Twitterverse on fire, as he was met with both laughter and anger NPR blogger Barbara J. King was particularly angry about this post, so she posted: “That turtle’s life meant something- was your tweet a bad joke? Why would you be so cruel to a living being?”

To which Blake responded with a simple, “Shut up” and it went even more downhill from there.

After that remark was posted, he was inundated with furious messages and one in particular seemed to get under his skin, a person with the Twitter username @turtlefeed tweeted several times about Shelton’s lack of sympathy for taking the life of an animal.

Shelton then wrote, “Hey @turtlefeed. Before u make an even bigger dipsh*t of urself you should research on how much money I have raised to feed homeless animals”. Then adding, “Hey @turtlefeed.. I solely have raised over a million dollars in animal rescue/conservation alone… How much have you raised? Oh. Ok. Next.”

After the heated battle had cooled down a bit, he decided to apologize by saying,”The best part of all of this is that the dumb a*ses didn’t even look to see that I’m not even in Oklahoma today!! I’m in North Dakota!! Do they even have turtles in North Dakota?!!! God almighty!!! What’s wrong with people?! Get a life!! Get a job!! Get laid!! For once!!!”

Later adding, “For the last time I didn’t hit a turtle! I haven’t seen a turtle! So please all you turtle freaks go back to eating your boogers!! It’s ok.”

Apparently some people still weren’t happy with his apology, as they believed it was more of a forced thing than an actual apology to which Blake responded with, “Ok.. Now that “Turtle-Gate” is over I want to apologize for my ignorant joke.. I never ran over a turtle. It wasn’t even possible.”

While Blake is currently on the road promoting his album latest Red River Blue, he’s also getting ready for the third installment of The Voice which starts in the fall. Shelton is set to hit the stage at the Big Valley Jamboree in Camrose, AB on Friday night.
