The interwebs are abuzz with rumours that Fox is about to sign none other than Brad Paisley as it’s newest American Idol judge.
Fox announced this week that Mariah Carey will be joining the panel after Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez both quit. With one seat still available, Paisley makes sense seeing as some of Idol’s biggest stars have been country – Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina. In fact, Toby Keith says he was approached by Fox for the judging job (which he declined), so it looks like they’re all over having a country panel member.
Personally, it would totally make me tune into AI again. Brad Paisley is an amazing artist and tremendously funny. All 30 of his singles have gone top 20 on the country charts, 27 of them have hit the top 10 and 18 have reached #1.
Considering what success Idol has had with country music, it’s a great move. And they’re probably taking a cue from what Blake Shelton has done for “The Voice”. It will be interesting to see if Brad goes for it, after all, he did a pretty good job skewering reality TV in “Celebrity“, so maybe he’s not a fan (he has performed on Idol, so he must not be too opposed.)
I hope he does it. Would having a country judge make YOU tune into AI more often?
