Country rocks Canadian Music Week

Every March, music from all across Canada comes together to celebrate the talented musicians from this diverse country we live in. While many genres are showcased all over Toronto, last weekend our country genre was well represented.

Johnny Reid performed as a kick off to the festival on Wednesday night playing his hits and songs from his new record, Fire It Up. Thursday saw a performance from rising star Kira Isabella, who later in the weekend won ‘Best New Country Performer’ at the Canadian Radio Music Awards.

Friday night at the Cadillac Lounge showcased rising star Josh Macumber, who currently has a video at CMT with his song ‘Tomorrow’. Road Hammer Clayton Bellamy brought the house down with his set featuring songs from his new album Everyone’s a Dreamer and a few favorites from the Road Hammer’s collection. The Heartbroken closed off the night with their unique brand of country.

Saturday brought the festival to a close with performances by Stacey McKitrick, The Stellas, and Dallas Smith. The Stellas performed their hits including ‘Perfect’ and ‘In This House’. Default frontman Smith brought the night to a close with songs from his forthcoming country album including the hits ‘Somebody Somewhere’ and ‘If It Gets You Where You Wanna Go’.

It is fair to say that Toronto and the rest of Canada got a taste of the rich future of our genre, gaining new fans from all corners of our great nation. You can check out photos from the event on our Twitter page.
