Guessing Grammy Nominations

KaceyMusgravesThe Grammy Nominations Concert LIVE!! will air tonight with performances from Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Lorde, T.I. and Keith Urban featuring Miguel. Country music remains one of the top genres in music with over $1 billion in sales last year –  a sign that the genre still has the most loyal fans and is continuously growing.  Here are my predictions of the country artists who’ll score nominations this evening.

  • Album of the Year (All Genre)

Taylor Swift – Red

Realistically, this is the only country album I see being nominated in this category. Taylor had an incredible year with ‘Red’; critical acclaim and commercial success and a sold-out world tour. The category is obviously a tough one with all genres in music being represented but I am certain Taylor will score a nomination.

  • Best New Artist (All Genre)

If Kacey Musgraves does not get nominated in this category tonight I will be completely shocked. Kacey’s music has struck a chord with those in country music – but also outside the genre.  She’s a talented, outspoken, edgy, singer-songwriter who breaks the stereotypical country mold with songs about marijuana and same-sex relationships. A far cry from the typical songs about trucks and beer that dominate the country radio airwaves. When GQ asked her what trend needed to die in music, she responded; “Anyone singing about trucks, in any form, in any song, anywhere. Literally, just stop – nobody cares! It’s not fun to listen to.”

I couldn’t agree more.

Other potential nominees could include Florida Georgia Line and Ashley Monroe.

  • Song of the Year (All Genre)

Once again, I think Kacey Musgraves will grab a nomination here with ‘Merry Go ‘Round’. The bleak and depressing look at life in a small town. I also think that Florida Georgia Line will definitely have a nomination in this category with ‘Cruise’ which became a massive hit for the duo in both the country genre and pop – thanks to a remix with rapper Nelly.

  • Best Country Album

Kacey Musgraves – ‘Same Trailer Different Park’

Keith Urban – ‘Fuse’

Ashley Monroe – ‘Like A Rose’

The Band Perry – ‘Pioneer’

Taylor Swift – ‘Red’

  • Best Country Solo Performance

Kacey Musgraves – ‘Merry Go ‘Round’

Keith Urban – ‘Little Bit Of Everything’

Carrie Underwood – ‘Two Black Cadillacs’

Blake Shelton – ‘Mine Would Be You’

Darius Rucker – ‘Wagon Wheel’

  • Best Country Duo/Group Performance

The Civil Wars – ‘The One That Got Away’

The Band Perry  – ‘Done’ or ‘Don’t Let Me Be Lonely’

Lady Antebellum – ‘Downtown’

Florida Georgia Line – ‘Cruise’

Thompson Square – ‘If I Didn’t Have You’

There you have it – those are my predictions. Do you agree?  Which artists do you think will receive Grammy nominations tonight?
