What Happened To: Jo Dee Messina

JoDeeMessinaJo Dee Messina has sold over five million albums worldwide, had six number one hits with the songs Bye Bye, I’m Alright, Stand Beside Me, That’s The Way, Bring On The Rain, and her last hit single in 2005 My Give A Damn’s Busted – but then everything stopped. Jo Dee’s career went quiet.

In Nashville (as portrayed on the the TV show and as it is in real-life…) it’s the “out with the old – in with the new” mentality. There was a new crop of country stars, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift and Kellie Pickler.

After a few singles that stalled on the radio charts, it seemed Jo Dee’s label lost faith in her draw as a country star. A few independent singles and albums followed, but in 2013, Jo Dee launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund her new album on her own terms along with the fans.

The result? Surprising. The first single Peace Sign. Check out the song below.  In my opinion, this song would be a huge radio hit if Jo Dee had the label support ($$) behind her – but unfortunately, this song will probably never be heard. Instead, we have songs like Jake Owen’s Beachin’ on the airwaves.
