Johnny and Dean lead list of 2012 CCMA nominees

Country-soul singer Johnny Reid is up for a leading eight trophies at this year’s Canadian Country Music Association Awards. Country star Dean Brody is close behind with seven nominations riding high on the success of his Dirt album.  The Canadian Country Music Association announced this year’s nominees at a press conference on Wednesday.

Reid’s nominations include album of the year for Fire It Up, the title track of which has been nominated for single of the year.  The Scottish-born crooner is also up for the Fans’ Choice Award and Male Artist of the Year.

British Columbia-raised Dean Brody is close behind with seven nominations including Single of the Year and Video of the Year for his smash hit, ‘Canadian Girls, as well as Album of the Year and the Fans’ Choice Award. Alberta traditionalist Gord Bamford earned six nominations including Single of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, and the Fans’ Choice Award.

Jason Blaine, Terri Clark, Doc Walker, Ryan Laird, Paul Brandt, The Stellas, and Hey Romeo also earned multiple nominations.

“All of today’s nominees deserve ample recognition for their excellence as well as their tremendous contribution to Canadian country music,” said Don Green, Executive Director, CCMA. “This year’s nominees reflect the depth of musical talent in Canada, and we’re so proud to be able to recognize those artists – both established and emerging – who have impacted Canadians with their music.”

The 2012 CCMA Awards will be broadcast live on CBC Television from Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 8 p.m.

Bamford, Brody, and Reid are all scheduled to perform, as are American stars Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert.
