Keith Urban’s 1st show after surgery, records new song for new movie

Country superstar Keith Urban will appear at the Grand Ole Opry on February 3rd, marking his first performance since successfully undergoing vocal cord surgery late last year. He will also perform at the Opry on March 9. Urban announced that he was going to have the surgery last November and was forced to cancel two Opry performances.

Hopefully his voice held up last night, after all the schmoozing he must have done with Hollywood’s biggest stars. Keith and his wife Nicole Kidman attended the Golden Globes ceremony where the actress was a presenter.

The country singer and guitar whiz has recently co-written (along with Monty Powell) and recorded a song titled ‘For You’ for the Act of Valor soundtrack. Directed by the Bandito Brothers, Act of Valor is a movie that tells a fictional story of search and rescue that uses actual U.S. Navy SEAL tactics conducted by legitimate, real life SEALs (instead of actors). The song will be available digitally on iTunes on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

Even though his wife is one of the world’s most famous movie actresses, apparently this is Urban’s first movie collaboration on behalf of a motion picture.  The country star said, “After seeing Act of Valor, my co-writer and I wanted to capture the essence of not only what these men and women do so extraordinarily, but how that relates to all of us. Valor shows us what they are willing to give their all for, which made me wonder, ‘What am I willing to give my life for?’  ‘For You’ is intended to allow the listener to define who that is for them.”

The song will play over the end credits of the movie, due in theatres Feb. 24.
