Kellie Pickler is showing more than her support on the latest issue of Maxim. The country cutie and “American Idol” alum, 26, is appearing in a special military issue scheduled to hit shelves July 31. She appears in the “Salute to the Military” issue wearing a skimpy fatigue-like outfit.
Kellie, who grew up in a military family – her grandfather was a Marine – is on her fifth tour with the USO, providing support and entertainment for the troops overseas.
“I’ve always had a great deal of respect for anyone who serves our country,” Kellie told the magazine.
Kellie talks about visiting the troops in Afghanistan and an impromptu jam session that took place in a chapel in Camp Spann. “My whole band and I stayed up one night until 3 a.m., picking with the soldiers who played guitar. We had a picking party.”
She’s also recounted visiting soldiers in Iraq and staying at one of Saddam Hussein’s palaces.
“If those walls could talk, there’s no telling what stories they’d tell,” she said. “It’s nicer than a tent, but in some ways a tent might be better, you know?”
Meanwhile, some Christian bent websites feel that Kellie’s getting a little too risque what with the Maxim feature and her “Daisy Duke” appearance in Bucky Covington’s latest video and think it will tarnish her image. Sure, she used to be the sweet little innocent girl next door, but she’s gotta grow up some time! And, after all, sex sells! Kellie looks fantastic, and quite frankly, if I had a body like that I’d show it off too!
