Swift makes a ‘pop’ record?

There’s no question that Taylor Swift‘s latest single is definitely more on the pop side of the spectrum, and last weekend in a backstage interview the head of her record label admitted it.  Billboard magazine interviewed Scott Borchetta of Big Machine Records at the iHeart Radio Music Fest in Las Vegas who said, “Red is a pop record. We have decided that the country version of ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ won’t make the album.”

Shocking to country fans? Maybe. He added, “There was a really specific moment that she and Max Martin and Shellback created and it’s very much a pop record. We’ve never hidden behind what it is.”

A new single, ‘Begin Again’ was released to iTunes last night with more of a country feel, and found it’s way to the top of the iTunes charts in a matter of hours. Do you think Taylor should return to her country roots, or will you happy with her “pop” record?

The new album Red will hit stores on October 22nd.
