Top Country chats with The Band Perry

BANDPERRY

The Band Perry is in Edmonton, AB this weekend for the Canadian Country Music Awards where they will be performing on Sunday, September 8th and Top Country got to ask them a few questions about their upcoming tour and what they are looking forward to doing while they’re in Canada!

Q

What are you most looking forward to doing while you’re here in Canada for the Canadian Country Music Awards?

A

We are fans first and foremost and can’t wait to cheer on all of the performers of the night – be a part of the Canadian Country fabric.

Q

You released your second album Pioneer in April, what’s a song on the album that you are particularly proud of and why?

A

The song “Pioneer” really tells the story of the making of this album. At times it was our best friend, in other moments it was our arch nemesis, but this song was always the anchor. The chorus says, “Where are we going? I don’t know. But still I’ve got to go. What will become of us? I don’t care. I’ll go anywhere. Pioneer.” This is exactly how we felt – it’s The Band Perry at our most vulnerable. We are proud of that.

Q

Can you tell me a bit about your writing process?

A

Songs come to us in so many different ways. Most afternoons the three of us sit in a circle on our tour bus, instruments in hand, and just start playing. Our songs begin to rise from those jam sessions. Sometimes it’s just a piece of an idea, but we let those pieces churn until a melody and lyric begin to form. The muscle work comes when we go our separate ways to work on the lyric and then come back together and piece it all together like a puzzle. One half of the process is like art class, and the other half is calculus.

Q

You recently announced your We Are Pioneers World Tour, what does it feel like to be embarking on your first headlining tour?

A

It’s time.

 TC’S FUN 5

1. Ultimate dream collaboration? Jay-Z or Keith Richards

2. Completely addicted to? Sweet Tea

3. Guilty pleasure? Mob movies

4. Favourite song to cover? Fat Bottom Girls by Queen

5. Best and worst things about being in a band with your siblings? The worst things are the best things. Everyone knows everyone’s business, and it’s extremely close quarters. At the end of the day though, we’ve got each other’s back. We’re like the Avengers when it comes to protecting one another – it’s not easy to get through these ranks!
