Trace Adkins country singer and sausage pitchman

It was announced late last week that Trace Adkins is partnering up with the Hightower’s Sausage company to market a line (or is that a link?) of Trace Adkins Hightower’s Country Smoked Sausage. He’s not the first country star to hustle sausages.  Jimmy Dean‘s name became forever associated with his successful sausage empire, Jimmy Dean breakfast foods.

Hightower’s has been in business for over 40 years in northwest Louisiana, not far from Trace’s hometown. Trace apparently grew up on the stuff .. maybe that contributed to his epic height??? ha ha

Here’s the link (pun intended) to Trace’s first sausage commercial.

I don’t know about you, but celebrity endorsements don’t sell me at all.  I mean, Trace seems sincere enough, but the bottom line is the bottom line.. most stars endorse products for the MONEY… therefore, I’m unconvinced.  I mean, I’m certainly not going all Jenny Craig after Kirstie Alley’s massive fail.  And Madonna pitching Pepsi didn’t get me to drink it. In fact, when I see a celebrity pitching a product, it often turns me off wanting to buy it.

I can understand artists promoting musical instruments and the like.  But when they start hawking hair colour and razors…seriously, people.  I cannot believe Tina Fey, Sarah Jessica Parker, or Jennifer Lopez are sitting home on a Saturday night colouring each other’s hair with product out of a box.

Does Trace’s ad make you want to buy the product?  Or do you think celebs are “selling out” when they start selling things other than their music or movies?

For me, the only thing that makes me want to buy is the quality of the product.  So, if Trace would like to come over and serve me some sausage samples…. maybe I’ll reconsider.
