Vomit Inducing?

Luke bryan

There are a lot of things in life that make me want to throw up.  Let’s see; the smell of a full litter box in summer heat, the taste of prune juice, the scent of a full diaper, opening a milk carton only to realize it’s curdled. Yup, all those things make me want to throw up, there are many more too.

One thing that doesn’t make me want to throw up (well, not exactly)…Luke Bryan.

Recently while in Vancouver, Zac Brown had a chat with 97.3 JRfm. While on air, Zac was asked what he enjoys listening to in the genre. His response: “There’s not a lot of the country format that I really enjoy listening to. What we do is not necessarily traditional country music. But we play our own instruments and we put in harmonies. If I hear one more tailgate in the moonlight, daisy duke song, I’m gonna throw up. There’s songs out there on the radio right now that make me ashamed to be even in the same format as some other artists.”

Well, alright Zac Brown.  I can’t say I totally disagree and yeah I do love his honesty, to a point. I am not a huge fan of Luke Bryan, but I know many others are, “to each their own” is my philosophy.

People are always shocked to know that I work in the country industry.  I think people still assume country means a huge belt buckle, cowboy boots, hat and a plaid shirt.  After people’s initial shock of my country ‘career’, the next question, is always; “Do you actually like country music?” My answer is always:  “It’s like any kind of genre, there’s some good stuff and there’s some sh*t.”

Zac Brown didn’t stop with the generalized comment about the country genre and that’s where he went ‘wrong’.  Zac went on to mention a fellow country artist and ‘friend’ in his genre-bashing tirade.

“I love Luke Bryan, and he’s had some great songs, but this new song is the worst song I’ve ever heard. I know Luke, he’s a friend. ‘My Kind of Night’ is one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard.  I see it being commercially successful in what is called country music these days, but I also feel like that the people deserve something better than that.” Yeah, some ‘friend’ you are Zac Brown. (As a said note, Luke’s latest album, also titled “Crash My Party” debuted at #1 with first week sales of 528,000 copies, making it the best selling album by a male country artist in nine years.)

After word got out about Zac’s comments on Luke, Jason Aldean stood by his BFF and posted a picture on his Instagram with the caption, “…to those people running their mouths, trust me when I tell u that nobody gives a sh*t what u think.”

Cue tiny Justin Moore, “Everybody has their own opinions, and I don’t have a problem with people having their own opinions, but where I do have a problem with it is when you call somebody in your fraternity.”

Blake Shelton was just happy not to be involved; “So happy there’s a sh*t storm going on with some artists in country music and for once I’m NOT in the middle of it.. This calls for a drink!” he said via Twitter.

In my opinion, the best comment was a tweet from Will Hoge; “Millionaires arguing about who is ‘more country’ cracks me up. Trust me, farm hands and factory workers are countrier than both ya’ll. Shhhh!” I couldn’t agree more. I mean, Zac Brown, is a vegan/on a raw food diet – how country is that?

What do you think of Zac’s comments? Would you give props to Zac for being honest about the state of country music or shame on him for naming names and bashing a genre that accepted him and a fellow country artist?
