This month’s Fresh Find artist is Saskatchewan’s own Samara Yung. She’s a multi SCMA winner and she’s currently working on her new album which is due out in late spring of this year and her brand new single “Walk Away” dropped on iTunes today, you can download it here. Q: What made you want to pursue a career in country music?
A: My dad has been a huge influence on me musically. He truly is the reason I am the person/artist I am today and he is always on stage with me too.
Q: Who have been some of your biggest musical influences?
A: I actually listened to more rock music like Pat Benatar as a kid then country music but it was artists like Martina McBride, Jo dee Messina and the Wilkinsons that made me fall in love with country music.
Q: Your brand new single “Walk Away” dropped today on iTunes, how does it feel?
A: It feels AMAZING! It was a long road getting here to this third project and with this whole new project comes a lot of new and exciting friendships so I am so unbelievably excited to FINALLY be able to share this first song with everyone!
Q: You’ve also got a new album in the works, what can fans expect from it?
A: Fans can expect a whole new sound! We are working with a new producer and I am hoping that the fans will love the new songs. I feel that an artist always needs to strive to keep learning about themselves and their voice and that their albums should be a reflection of the things that they learn. So hopefully everyone will see that and I really just want to keep getting better and keep my fans engaged.
Q: Where can fans catch you this summer?
A: One of my big highlight shows this summer will be at Dauphin’s Countryfest in Dauphin, Manitoba but we are still filling up the calendar so everyone can head on over to my website and check out all of the dates there.
