Fort McMurray Fire
On Tuesday May 3rd a wildfire sparked up in Fort McMurray, Alberta resulting in the entire town being placed under mandatory evacuation. More than 100,000 residents of the city and surrounding region were evacuated. The fire is set to be the largest natural disaster that Canada has ever experienced. As of Monday May 9th the fire is still raging and headed in new directions. According to The Globe and Mail, cooler temperatures are expected to help keep the fire under control – yet it will still take months to fully extinguish.
The entire country is spreading awareness and asking the world to donate to the Red Cross in support of all Fort McMurray residents. The country music community is also sending prayers, making donations, and offering to support with a music benefit.
Terri Clark, Gord Bamford, and Jason Blaine have all Tweeted offering their support.
