Indie music nominees announced

The folks at Canada’s independent label Open Road Records must have been beaming with pride when the nominees in the country category for the SiriusXM INDIES – 12th Annual Independent Music Awards were announced on Wednesday.  Nominated for Country Artist/Group or Duo of the Year are; Open Road acts Dean Brody, Doc Walker, High Valley, Jason McCoy, and Tara Oram.

Open Road/Big Machine artist Taylor Swift received two nominations, for International Solo Artist of the Year and for International Album of the Year (for her album Speak Now). In the former category Swift is up against Adele, Anna Calvi, tUnE-yArDs, and Tom Waits. Did you ever think you’d ever see Tom Waits and Taylor Swift nominated for the same award? In the INDIES category for Folk/Roots Artist/Group or Duo of the Year the nominees are; Blackie and The Rodeo Kings, Bruce Cockburn, Elliott Brood, One Hundred Dollars, and The Deep Dark Woods. Often the artists in the Folk/Roots categories are just as country (if not more so) than those in the country categories.  Case in point, The Deep Dark Woods and their song ‘Sugar Mama’…
