Billy Currington’s new album, “We Are Tonight” is out today and Top Country got the chance to talk to him about what fans can expect. Read all about it below!

What can fans expect from your new album, “We Are Tonight”?
A
Well, it’s an album I’ve been working on for about three years now. There’s a couple really country songs on there, a couple of them I did with Dan Huff that are pretty amped up and rocked-out with his guitar playing and there’s one on there I actually did out in L.A. with a friend of mine who’s a hip-hop producer so it’s pretty groovin’ and nothing you would probably expect. There’s a lot of heart and soul put into it and I hope the fans enjoy it.

What was the recording process like?
A
Working with three different producers was a lot of fun; trying to make it all mesh together was something that I thought I was going to have to try doing but it just naturally did so. Everything was just pretty laid back and pretty easy, the right time came along and I realized I’ve finally got ten songs I’m proud of and turned it in and here we are.
Q
How did the song “Hard To Be A Hippie” featuring Willie Nelson come along?
A
It actually came about just off of a YouTube video. I typed in a songwriter friend of mine’s name and heard the song on YouTube and I called him up and was like “man, is this song available, has somebody recorded it yet?” and he was like “well Willie Nelson wants to record it, let me check with him”. Then two years goes by and I ended up on Willie Nelson’s bus with Scotty (the songwriter) and he mentioned to him that I wanted to record it and Willie was just like “man, let’s just do it together”, which is kind of how that song came about.

What’s a song that you consider “the perfect song”?
A
Well … there’s a song called “We Are Tonight”, and it’s the title track of my new album. At this moment I’m only going to say my songs since we’ve got a new album coming out [laughs]. “We Are Tonight” is a really well-written song, although I didn’t write the song I’m glad to be a part of it as an artist; it’s one of my favourite songs.

Any plans on coming to Canada anytime soon?
A
We do have plans to come to Canada and that’s next year, we’re going on tour starting in March and Canada is definitely on the list. I’m looking forward to that.
