Carrie Underwood’s new music video for “Blown Away” was released August 1st. The second single off Carrie’s fourth album of the same title, takes a dark, countrified twist on the well-used storm metaphor, relating a turbulent family history to an Oklahoma twister. Powerful hook lines from Nashville writers Josh Kear and Chris Tompkins read: “There’s not enough rain in Oklahoma/ to wash the sins out of that house. / There’s not enough wind in Oklahoma/ to rip the nails out of the past.”
Carrie plays the damaged daughter trying to wake her drunken father in time to escape a wicked incoming tornado in the video directed by Randee St. Nicholas. The video is rife with Wizard of Oz allusions. Can you find them?
Underwood will play the Boots and Hears Festival in Bowmanville, ON this weekend.
