Gord Bamford: Is It Friday Yet – Concert Review

Gord Bamford’s ‘Is It Friday Yet’ Tour made its stop in Lloydminster, AB on April 25, performing to a sold out crowd at the Vic Juba Community Theatre.

Opening act Hey Romeo, 2011 CCMA Group of the Year winners, kicked off the show with an outstanding acoustic set. Stacie Roper’s lead vocals, along with Darren Gusnowksy and Rob Shapiro’s harmonies belted out their hits, ‘Searching For You’ and ‘That’s What I Am’. Fans also got a sneak peak of their upcoming album, Twist of Fate with songs like the title track as well as ‘Outlove You’, a co-write with Carolyn Dawn Johnson. They also played their new single ‘Jump Back In’, which just hit radio.

Gord Bamford took to the stage with his hits including current single ‘Is It Friday Yet’, along with other favorites like ‘Blame It on That Red Dress’, ‘Drinking Buddy’, and ‘Postcard from Pasadena’. Crowd favorites though were some of his most personal including ‘Little Guy’ and ‘My Daughter’s Father’ for his kids Nash, Paisley, and Memphis.

The real crowd stealer though was Gord’s upcoming single ‘Leaning on a Lonesome Song’, a song that Gord wrote about his late brother-in-law and his struggles throughout life. In my opinion, some of the best writing Gord has ever done. You can find the song on Gord’s new album, Is It Friday Yet.

Country music may have stretched is boundaries, but Bamford remains in the heart of it. Country fans of all ages will love this show. There are still several dates left on the western stretch of the tour, as well as many festival dates throughout the summer right across Canada.
