Top Country had the opportunity to catch up with Gord Bamford to talk about his recent Juno nomination and his plans for 2014.
TC: What did it feel like to hear you were nominated for a Juno for Country Album of the Year?
GB: It was a huge honour. I’ve been lucky enough to have a couple Juno nominations before but I’ve never won a Juno. It’s a pretty cool event to take in because there’s all the genres of music there and I am a fan of music, so it’s really great to be nominated but I am really excited to be able to go hang out and take part in everything.
TC: It has been a great 6 months for you, with your CCMA wins, touring with Reba, releasing Country Junkie and your Christmas album. What do you have in store for fans this year?
GB: We are just working on a bunch of festivals that we have planned in Canada. We have a deal in the US now, so we are going to book stuff in America. We are going to Australia to play a festival. We are actually just setting up to do our first headlining tour across Canada next year this time. We are trying to stay a year and a half ahead.
TC: Your second single ‘Unreal’ was released to country radio recently – what type of feedback/ comments have you been hearing about the song? What type of comments have you been hearing about the album as a whole from your fans?
GB: They have been great, the single ‘Unreal’ is really raking up the charts, it’s on pace to do great things. Obviously, it’s a little bit different than the last single but people seem to be really liking it and I have had quite a few people saying it’s their favourite song and it is mine on the record too. Lots of great feedback on the album as a whole, it’s a bit different than the other projects I have done, it’s a little more slicker and the productions a little bit stronger on it, so far so good.
TC: With the Winter Olympics underway– what’s your favourite winter Olympics sport to watch? #GOTEAMCANADA
GB: I love the Olympics, I’m kind of like an Olympic Junkie. I am big hockey fan so I have been following the women’s team and waiting for the men’s to start up.
Congrats to Gord on his recent gold single certification for ‘When Your Lips Are So Close‘ and his platinum certification for his Christmas In Canada album!
