Kacey Musgraves made history as she performed at the GLAAD Media Awards in New York City on Saturday night. Kacey became the FIRST country artist to perform at the event in it’s 25 year history – I’d say it’s about time! Kacey spoke about the performance saying, “I’m so proud to be here representing country music and I just want to say cheers to everybody in this room that follows their arrow.” Congrats to Kacey for following her own arrow as well and representing something that’s not ‘the norm’ in country music.
It seems not everyone was happy with Kacey performing at an awards show that honours media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Kacey posted to her Facebook the following day:
“It’s funny – the amount of hate and negativity that plagues this dumbass social network. Not to rant, but, there are more mean, shallow things commented here than any place else I chose to share stuff with. If you’re coming here for any reason than to appreciate my music and take a little peak at what’s goin’ on in my world occasional – stay the fu*k out.”
