“She’s still my little girl…”

Billy-Ray-Cyrus-1

Billy Ray Cyrus has finally spoken out about the media circus surrounding daughter Miley and her scandalous, sexual and downright graphic performance at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards.

Although he didn’t comment directly on the lewd performance, he did say: “I’ll always be here for Miley. I can’t wait to see her when she gets home. She’s still my little girl and i’m still her Dad regardless how this circus we call show business plays out. I love her unconditionally and that will never change.”

I was not going to comment on this story as everyone is – however, now with Billy Ray speaking out, it seemed like the time is right.

Firstly, let’s remember that Miley Cyrus is a 20 year old woman. She may not be legal to drink alcohol or gamble in the United States  – but she is still considered a woman. Sure, she was once America’s sweetheart Hannah Montana and was a voice for a younger generation. However, we need to realize as an audience that celebrities don’t freeze in time – and aren’t always the same as the person being presented to us on the TV screen.

That said, this performance was downright crass. Miley Cyrus should not be promoting the use of Ecstasy, she should not be grinding against a 35 year-old Robin Thicke (shame on him) and she should keep that damn tongue in her yap. What is that even all about?

Regardless, we are still talking about Miley Cyrus and that was the intention. There are a lot of behind the scenes people who work on making a performance like that happen – and they knew exactly what they were doing. People are still talking about Madonna, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera kissing on the VMA’s 10 years ago.

Miley continues to be the name on the tip of everyone’s tongue. Although we may not like her music or agree with her career choices, she does have one thing going for her, an infamous VMA performance.

What did you think of the new Miley Cyrus and her performance? Will you be buying her album Bangerz when it’s released on October 4th?
