TC Reviewed: ‘Nashville’

Review by Adria DeLaune

Nashville is part soap opera, part primetime drama, and all country!  ABC’s Wednesday night offering is filmed in the heart of country music, Nashville, Tennessee.  The settings are as real as the talent and these actors do their own singing.  The show features such landmarks as The Ryman and The Bluebird Café, as well as local East Nashville favourite The Five Spot, and the majority of the extras used in filming are local Nashvillians.

The show centers on two very successful but very different country artists.  The young powerhouse Juliette Barnes (played by Hayden Panettiere) and country legend Rayna James (played by Connie Britton) are rivals in every sense of the word.  Both are vying for the attention of the same audience, the same record label and the same guitar player (played by Charles Esten).  The show has rocketed to success and the cast of this show is full of stars and stars-in-the-making.   Among the major highlights of the hour-long show are a weekly dose of adorable in the form of Lennon and Maisy Stella, the precocious musical phenoms who play the daughters of Rayna James.  You may know them as the children of CCMA award winning duo The Stellas.

If you ever wanted to know what living and working in Nashville is like, this is about as close as you can get.  While the drama is a bit over the top, the music is spot on, as is the scenery.
