Jaida Dreyer‘s new album is nothing short of perfection start to finish. She, who is most known up here in Canada for ‘Guy’s Girl’ from last summer, reveals herself as an outstanding songwriter and vocalist on her debut release.

‘If That’ll Make You Love Me’ is delivered with a satin vocal, dripping with desperation. The lyrics in this tune make my heart ache. This one is a clear stand out on the album.

Tracks like ‘Cocaine’ and ‘Confessions’ show the sassy side of Dreyer that makes the album fresh. Other tunes like ‘If That Ain’t Love’ and ‘Put Your Boots Back On’ will have you singing along after the first listen.

Perhaps the highlight of the album is the powerful, lyrically honest ‘Boy Who Cried Love’, co-written with Sugarland’s Kristian Bush (you can hear his guest vocal on this one, too!). I don’t think I’ve ever heard a song quite put that way, which makes it an instant stand out.

The new single ‘Half Broke Horses’ is the closest thing to a biographical song for Dreyer, and is sure to be a hit on radio in both Canada and the US in the coming months.

It’s been a long time since I’ve heard a record that I cannot take off of repeat. It’s one of those albums that breaks the mold, yet remains right within the brand of country that Jaida has made all her own. There’s a song for every mood, and she delivers some of the most heart-wrenching ballads that touch you right inside in your soul. This record proves Jaida Dreyer is a true artist, not just another pretty face, and has the chops to both sing and write strong songs that have the potential to be chart-toppers.
