Autumn Hill Confess Favourites, Work-out to Bieber’s Sorry, and Never Milked Cows!

Autumn Hill Confess: Work-out to Bieber’s Sorry and Never Milked Cows!

Well there you have it, Autumn Hill dished all their secrets out. Along with finding out that both Tereya and Mike (the Autumn Hill duo) workout to Justin Bieber’s Sorry (but really, who doesn’t? Heck I’d even milk a cow to Sorry), we also asked them what all their favourite things are. Read below to find out their favourite things about Calgary, their favourite emoji’s, date nights, and piece of advice.

What is your favourite Jann Arden song?

Tareya: I love her entire album ‘Living Under June’.  Good Mother is one of my all-time favourite songs. I also have to say Karolina. Jann Arden invited us (Autumn Hill) to be a part of that song. A dream collaboration of mine!

Mike: Well “Karolina” aside, since getting to work with Jann was absolutely a dream come true and one of the best moments in my musical life. I still can’t believe we were so fortunate to work with and learn from her. It was so inspiring and something I will always remember. I would have to say “Good Mother”. That is such a beautiful song with an amazing melody and her voice just hits you.

What is your favourite thing about Calgary?

Tareya: Definitely my Family! I was born and raised in Calgary! I moved to Toronto about 5 years ago to pursue a career in music, so coming home to Calgary for the JUNO Awards is very special to me for so many reasons.  And the beef… there’s nothing like Alberta beef.

Mike: One of my favourite restaurants, Una Pizza and Wine, is in Calgary. Every time we come into town we have to go. The last time we had a big family gathering with Tareya’s family. I have to say I really love the people in Calgary, everyone seems so genuine and nice. It’s really a fantastic city and of course the Calgary Stampede is amazing. Also proud to say, “Hot Rod Harriet and Roger Rhodes” at Country 105 made me a honorary Calgarian.

What is your pre-performance ritual?

Tareya: I usually do a short vocal warm up, eat a banana and say a prayer. Mike and I also high-five.

Mike: Usually I’ll be wandering around backstage doing some vocal warm ups, which are pretty embarrassing sounding so I try to hide a little. Then we do a little hands in thing that gets us all pumped and after the band starts the intro Tareya and I will always give each other a High five, then we know we’re ready.

How old were you when you got your first pair of cowboy boots?

Tareya: I can’t remember! I’m sure it was pretty young. I think every Calgarian has a pair of cowboy boots in their closet.

Mike: My dad had a pair that I wore around the house as I kid, they were all black and I loved them.

Have you milked a cow?

Tareya: No.

Mike: I can honestly say… no.

Which ANCHOR song did you enjoy recording the most?

Tareya: It Don’t Get Better Than This. From the writing room to it’s final day in the studio, that song has had such a fun, easygoing vibe. Never Be Mine is also a favourite of mine. It’s the only stripped down song on the record, and is a solo piece instead of a duet. It was nice to record a song that was a little different than usual.

Mike: I loved making this record, we are really proud of the material on it. I remember singing “Blame” in the studio before we left on a tour and just thinking about how excited I was to share this music. “August in the rain” was a song I wrote before Autumn Hill, it holds a special place in my heart. I really loved bringing it to life on this record, it came out exactly the way I dreamed.

What is your favourite city?

Tareya: I love Boston. The architecture is gorgeous and the food is delicious. Go to DeLuca’s Market if you’re ever there and get a sandwich. They’re amazing.

Mike: Nashville and Toronto.

What is your favourite emoji?

Tareya: Puppy face and heart eyes. Usually side by side. I’m obsessed with my dogs, Harley & Hudson.

Mike: The smiling poop, come on its hilarious in every situation.

Favourite date night?

Tareya: Casa Antica in Lewiston, NY — string lights, spaghetti and stuffed peppers. One night a customer stood up and serenaded us with an Italian opera song… very romantic and a little bit awkward.

Mike: I love going to try cool new restaurants in the city especially the Playa Cabanas, they are just incredible Mexican restaurants with the best agave margaritas, ask for Dave. We are also thinking about going axe throwing next.

Favourite smell?

Tareya: My puppies. I think their paws smell like nachos. I also love the smell of vanilla candles. My house is full of them.

Mike: Opening a brand new tub of coke bottle gummies… the good ones. It’s that “new gummy smell”.

Favourite food?

Tareya: Spaghetti and Meatballs, hands down.  ‘Eggs in Purgatory’ at Wilf & Ada’s (Ottawa) is my favourite breakfast, aside from my Dad’s breakfasts.

Mike: Steak, Sushi and Mexican in no particular order.

Favourite piece of advice?

Tareya: Leap and the net will appear.

Mike: If there is no plan B, Plan A has to work, Fearlessly chase your dreams. (mom)

Favourite app?

Tareya: TV Food Maps. I’m a Food Network addict and I love road trips. This app shows restaurants along your drive that have been featured on The Food Network! The best!

Mike: Twitter and Instagram of course, recently though “Face Swap” is coming close, that is scary, funny and totally entertaining.

What is your favourite Justin Bieber song?

Tareya: I would say, ‘Sorry’. This is one of the cool-down songs on my gym playlist.

Mike: I really like the whole new record, but choosing one I would say “Sorry” it’s on my gym playlist, it gets you going.
