Already being hailed as “the best track” by PEOPLE Magazine, multi-PLATINUM singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley continues the narrative of his new album BLACK with the release of the second single “Different For Girls” featuring Elle King. Following its iHeart world premiere, the track is available at Country Radio now and all digital retailers as its magnetic lyrics analyze a woman’s self-awareness and independent approach after cutting ties with a significant other.
“There is a real honesty in these lyrics, and I haven’t heard a song written this way before. The differences in how guys and girls deal with a broken heart is really interesting material to me,” shared Bentley. “Having two daughters certainly has changed the way I see the world and what they have ahead. What I love about Elle being on this record, besides her uniquely powerful but vulnerable voice, is that she’s a total badass. Having her perspective really helps tell the complete story.”
“When I got the call that Dierks wanted me to sing with him I was very honored, but I get a little shy when I’m asked to sing other people’s songs – let alone a duet with one of the biggest Country stars in the world,” added King. “Our voices blended really well together. Since I often write from the male perspective, I was really excited to be a part of someone else’s story that is jumping outside of the norm for a relationship song. The lyrics are really smart and I love that he is bringing a lot of attitude to modern country music.”
In the wake of his multi-week hold on the No. one position at country radio with BLACK’s lead single “Somewhere On A Beach,” Bentley’s “dark, sexy” (Entertainment Weekly) forthcoming album continues to garner praise from critics ahead of release for its “abstract meditation on loneliness that leads to self-awareness and redemption” (USA Today).
“It’s a trick Bentley manages again and again on BLACK, expertly weaving styles and storytelling to build memorable tales to sing along with. His duet with Elle King, ‘Different For Girls’, smartly laments how the sexes deal with a breakup, while ‘Mardi Gras,’ featuring Trombone Shorty, shows how easily Bentley can move from one genre to the next without losing his country viewpoint.” – Newsday
“A country star who has survived changing trends by being unpredictable. His songwriting has a deeply introspective side…this latest record, BLACK, is a concept album that tracks a young relationship through its peaks and valleys.” – The Guardian
“No matter what your romantic status, BLACK is a fix for all the feels.” – PEOPLE
“Matters of the heart are always at the core of Dierks Bentley’s music, but on his latest album, BLACK, the country star gets more personal than ever, covering the ups, downs and curves of a long-term relationship.” – Redbook
