Kenny Chesney’s No Shoes Nation Tour made its way to the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto last week with opening acts Kacey Musgraves and Eli Young Band.
Texas native Kacey Musgraves started the evening right singing songs from her album Same Trailer Different Park including ‘Blowin’ Smoke’, ‘Stupid’, ‘Follow Your Arrow’ and her debut single ‘Merry Go Round’. The crowd was quite impressed with this Nashville Star alum who also sang ‘Mama’s Broken Heart’ a song she co-wrote that was picked up by Miranda Lambert. Her funky, fun and outgoing songs and stage presence was well received by the audience. Plus, she announced that she would be signing autographs after her performance which was a great way to meet her current fans and make some new fans.
Next up was fellow Texans, The Eli Young Band, these guys released their first album in 2002 but since then have gone from a relative unknown band to one of the biggest names in country music. They performed songs such as ‘Always The Love Songs’, ‘Say Goodnight’ and their latest single ‘Drunk Last Night’. Plus, they sang their # 1 hits: Love song ‘Crazy Girl’ and a song for dreamers ‘ Even If It Breaks Your Heart’.
The temperature wasn’t too hot in Toronto but Kenny Chesney sure made it feel like summertime by starting off the show with ‘Feel Like A Rockstar’. In his usual hat, sleeveless top and jeans, he brought the crowd back to the 90’s with ‘She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy’ and ‘How Forever Feels’ and into the 2000’s with my personal favourite ‘Don’t Happen Twice’ , ‘Summertime’, ‘Boys of Fall’ and one of his newest singles from Life On A Rock – ‘Pirate Flag’ to name a few. The island boy played for about two hours with fans clinging to his every word – and the ladies fighting to get closer to the stage.
Kenny will not be touring in 2014 but I hope he will grace more Canadian stages in 2015. The show was awesome from start to finish – would I see Kenny again? YES. All of the artists on the No Shoes Nation Tour deserve a round of applause because they sure know how to put on a stellar show!
