With the days getting shorter and shorter, it’s no wonder that many of us are feeling stressed, run-down and gloomy. Once the sun goes down and darkness paints the sky, it’s easy for a productivity to take a hit. After all, who wants to be out running errands, getting groceries or Christmas shopping when it’s so dark that all you really want to be doing is curling up in your bed with a cup of tea and good book.
The shortest day of the year is December 21, which means that until that point we are losing more and more time everyday. Or at least the lack of sunlight makes us feel like we are. In order to make you feel a little bit better about lost time, we’ve used this as an opportunity to round up the best country songs about time.
Here are 6 country songs that will make you wish you had more time.
1. Live like you were dying – Tim McGraw
Okay, so maybe we weren’t talking about time in the sense of life and death, but nonetheless this song is the perfect reminder to use your time doing the things you love and that make you happy. As the days get shorter, it’s important to remember to use your time wisely. Don’t fill it with things that stress you out or make you miserable.
2. Time – Dean Brody
This song packs a powerful punch. The video features a bunch of young teenagers talking about how they aren’t worried about how much time they have, because there’s always tomorrow. So things like visiting their grandparents and spending time with loved ones takes a backseat to things like social media. But as Dean Brody reminds us “one day you wake up and you find, the trouble is you thought you had time.”
3. I hope you dance – Lee Ann Womack
The combination of Lee Ann Womack’s sweet and angelic voice, a video depicting mothers and their daughters and song lyrics about preserving the wonderment and innocence of childhood is enough to make even the hardest of shells burst out in tears. “When you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance. ” It’s a lesson about time and taking chances that never gets old.
4. You’re gonna miss this – Trace Adkins
A song about growing up and not taking anything for granted. This song applies to just about anything in life, whether it’s not wishing away the short, cold and gloomy days or cherishing your relationship with your father. It always seems that we figure these things out once the time has already passed. “You may not know it now, but you’re going to miss this.”
5. Fast – Luke Bryan
“Sixty seconds now feels more like thirty, tick-tock, won’t stop, and round it goes. Sand through the glass sure falls in a hurry, and all you keep trying to do is slow it down.” Those lyrics sure ring close to home, especially during these winter months when it feels like you just don’t have enough time to do the things you want to do, and everything is moving way too fast.
6. My Wish – Rascal Flatts
And finally, a positive song about one person’s wish for another’s life. “My wish for you is that this life becomes all that you want it to. Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small, you never need to carry more than you can hold.” A beautiful reminder that no matter how much time passes, there will always be someone out there thinking about you and wishing you a beautiful life.
