Tim McGraw not for Governor

Back in 2006, Tim McGraw created some serious buzz when he said that he was interested in running for U.S. Senator or Governor in Tennessee. He even had the support and encouragement of fellow democrat and former U.S. President Bill Clinton; “The Democrats need candidates whom people can relate to in a personal way, people who understand their lives and their concerns and share their values. And I think that’s something Tim can do without even pretending.”

He now tells the Minneapolis/St. Paul Star Tribune that those days are behind him for now; “That was back in my drinking days.”  The ‘Truck Yeah’ singer quit drinking about four years ago in order to set a better example for his daughters but he hasn’t exactly ruled out running for office someday.

“Who knows? I feel like I’ve been very fortunate. If one of these days I’m in a position where I can give back and feel like I’m smart enough to help and not just doing it for the hell of doing it, then it would be something I’d consider. But certainly it would be after my kids are grown,” he said.
