“I’m sorry, but the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now…why? Oh… ’cause she’s dead.”
The superstar songstress has done it again with her latest album Reputation. While we’re definitely fans of the “new Taylor”, we can’t help but reminisce about the “old Taylor”, good ‘ole Taysway as some would say…don’t lie, you’ve said it too.
Even though she’s traded in cowboy boots for red lipstick, that’s not going to stop us from listening to her top country songs!
15. Mean
From the country instrumentation (side note: who remembers her fiddle player, Caitlin Evanson?!) to the music video, how could we not include “Mean” in Taylor Swift’s Top Country Songs list?
Favourite Lyric: “Drunk and grumbling on about how I can’t sing”
14. I’d Lie
While this song never made it on any of Taylor’s albums, that didn’t stop fans from memorizing every word when the song was leaked.
Favourite Lyric: “I count the colors in his eyes”
13. Should’ve Said No
“Should’ve Said No” was the ultimate “fair-warning” to anyone who messed with Taylor Swift in the future. Not to mention, her performance at the 2008 ACM Awards, with rain pouring down onstage, was one for the books.
Favourite Lyric: “You shouldn’t be begging for forgiveness at my feet”
12. Begin Again
Sometimes you just need to listen to good Taylor Swift ballad.
Favourite Lyric: “For the first time what’s past is past”
11. Fifteen
“Fifteen” is the song every young girl needs to hear.
Favourite Lyric: “In your life, you’ll do things / Greater than dating the boy on the football team”
10. All Too Well
This song is everything. You know, at the end of the day, we’ve got to thank Jake Gyllenhaal for inspiring this incredibly haunting, yet beautiful, song.
Favourite Lyric: “You call me up again just to break me like a promise / So casually cruel in the name of being honest”
9. Fearless
Don’t we all just want to feel how Taylor Swift felt while writing “Fearless”?
Favourite Lyric: “with you I’d dance / In a storm in my best dress / Fearless”
8. Red
Who knew the colour red could have so much meaning? While there’s no denying the pop influences in this song, there’s enough twang in there to classify this hit as country.
Favourite Lyric: “Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met”
7. You Belong With Me
No one writes an unacquainted love song like Taylor Swift. Not to mention, the “You Belong With Me” video is certainly one of her most iconic music videos. Tell me your pre-teen heart didn’t sink when she held up the “I Love You” sign written in black sharpie?
Favourite Lyric: “She’ll never know your story like I do”
6. Picture To Burn
We love this Taylor Swift classic. We can’t help but compare the level of “breakup angst” to Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats”.
Favourite Lyric: “So watch me strike a match / on all my wasted time / as far as I’m concerned you’re / just another picture to burn”
5. Better Man (Little Big Town)
After writing “Better Man”, Taylor Swift gifted the song to Little Big Town who then released the song in October 2016. Recently, Taylor was awarded “Song of the Year” at the 2017 CMA Awards for “Better Man”.
Favourite Lyric: “The bravest thing I ever did was run”

4. Teardrops On My Guitar
After the success of her debut single “Tim McGraw”, “Teardrops On My Guitar” proved Taylor Swift was here to stay, as the song peaked at 13 on Billboard’s Hot 100 charts. Post-breakup with Swift, Joe Jonas later referenced the song with the lyric “Now I’m done with superstars / And all the tears on her guitar” in his song “Much Better”.
Favourite Lyric: “He’s the reason for the teardrops on my guitar”
3. Love Story
Taylor Swift gives Romeo and Juliet a happy ending, and we’re thankful she did.
Favourite Lyric: “Romeo save me, they’re trying to tell me how to feel / This love is difficult, but it’s real”
2. Our Song
Cause only Taylor Swift could make “our song is a slamming screen door” sound romantic.
Favourite Lyric: “Our song is a slamming screen door”
1. Tim McGraw
The top country song by Taylor Swift is “Tim McGraw”. Each line is country through and through, painting the most vivid picture of a long lost romance.
Favourite Lyric: “He said the way my blue eyes shined / Put those Georgia stars to shame that night”
