Aaron Pritchett is back on the scene and recently sat down with TC to talk CMT Hitlist Tour, Rachel McAdams, and all about his “Suntan City”.
Q
Your new single “Suntan City” recently hit radio. What was the inspiration to record the song?
A
I think the song and its title really speak for themselves. When I heard the title I thought, “now that sounds cool…” and got my interest. But when I heard the song, I knew it had a lot of potential to be a hit song.
Q
You recently were on the road with Doc Walker and Emerson Drive for the CMT Hitlist Tour. What was your favourite part about the tour?
A
Besides the fact that I got tour with some great old friends, I think the highlight was playing all the shows to the thousands of fans. There’s NOTHING like having a crowd sing every word to almost every song back to you for your entire set. I would have to say another great thing was meeting and watching newcomer, Tim Hicks perform.
Q
What is your most memorable moment to date in your career?
A
With all honesty there have been so many great, memorable moments but I think the most memorable moment was about a month after my single, “Hold My Beer” was released to radio. I had no clue what kind of impact, if any, it had at radio. Then came Dauphin’s CountryFest in Dauphin, Manitoba. After doing my 45 minute set, just before Terri Clark, on a warm Friday in June, I stood side stage sweating and out of breath from giving it all I could. Then my tour manager was pleading for me to pull out my in-ear monitors and much to my amazement, the entire 18,000+ people in the crowd were chanting “HOLD MY BEER, HOLD MY BEER, HOLD MY BEER!!!!” It was a euphoric sound and one that keeps happening but none could ever repeat the shock and adrenaline rush of hearing it for the first time
Q
Favourite song you’ve ever written?
A
Hands down, it’s got to be “The Last Goodbye”. A song I wrote in 1997, on my own, which was recorded and released in 2000. It might have hit Top 50 on the Canadian charts but is still the only song I have recorded that I completely wrote myself.
Q
We assume a new album’s in the works. When can we expect to hear it?
A
There is no set date scheduled for anything as we have recorded several songs and are still piecing together the plans as well as may record more. This day and age, the industry changes daily and sometimes you need to invent, so we are coming up with new ideas and plans. So, no definitive answer but I know we DO have the next few singles ready to go!
