With only a week to go until Country Music Week kicks off in Edmonton, AB we are down to our last CCMA Single of the Year nominee. In the previous weeks we have highlighted the four other songs nominated for Single of the Year in our Pick of the Week feature and now we’ve reached the final nominee, Gord Bamford’s heartfelt “Leaning on a Lonesome Song”.
Gord has said in the past that “Leaning on a Lonesome Song” might be one of his favourite songs that he has ever been a part of writing and performing.The song was was written about his brother-in-law who struggled with addiction and depression off and on throughout his life leading him to take his own life in June of 2011. It’s a heartwrenching song with an important message that deeply resonates with listeners and quickly became a top 10 hit.
