Q&A

Q:  First off, congratulations on the amazing success of your debut EP – were you expecting it to climb the iTunes charts like that so quickly?

A: We were blown away! In releasing our first EP with no radio play, we didn’t expect to reach the top 20 on our launch day, much less #2 status!  We are thankful to our amazing fans who are responsible for our rise to the top of the charts, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds!

Q: What did it feel like to be the only females AND the only Canadians in the Top 5?

A: It was a total privilege! There’s been so much talk about the lack of women in the country charts and on country radio these days, so it was exciting to break through that conversation on day 1 as a female act.

Q: Can you tell us a bit about the process of creating and recording your new EP?

A: We’ve known each other for about ten years and became friends over a shared love of music. The Lovelocks organically grew from writing songs together on Sunday afternoons to then starting to perform at local Toronto venues. From there, we pursued writing trips down to Nashville to deepen our skills as songwriters, showcased at the CCMA’s, and signed a deal with MDM Recordings/Universal Music Canada in the summer of 2013. Throughout that process, we were fortunate to record our debut EP with Grammy award winning producer, Ben Glover and CCMA award winning producer Mitch Merrett who had been tracking with our project. It’s been an incredible process and a true labour of love.

Q: What’s a song on the album you’re particularly proud of and why?

A: We’re super proud of all of the songs on our album, but we’re particularly excited about our first single, “Teardrop Tattoo”, which went to country radio on March 3rd. The response to this song has been wild, the feedback from our fans has been great and we love performing it live, so we’re ecstatic for people across the country to hear it.  We’re also really proud of our song, “Dance”. It’s a real toe-tapper, and we consider it to be the ‘anthem’ of our album with an uplifting message that we stand behind. As we entered into the recording process, we knew that we were missing a song, and we ended up writing “Dance” twelve hours before we started laying down tracks. It was a small miracle this song came together in time, and people are loving it!

Q: What else do you have coming up this summer? Where are some places fans can catch you playing?

A: This spring/summer we’ll be releasing two more singles to radio (with the accompanying videos of course), and we’ll be playing shows all around Ontario to spread the word about our band. Fans can stay updated by checking out our website at www.thelovelocksband.com or by following us on Twitter (@HeyLovelocks) or on Facebook (www.facebook.com/thelovelocks). We’ll also be showcasing at the CCMA’s in Edmonton this September and a fall tour is in the works!
