Pick of the Week: Church and ‘Jesus’

Eric Church‘s new single ‘Like Jesus Does’ is different from what he’s released in the past; a song that will make his female fans weak in the knees. Branching off from the drinking anthems like ‘Drink in My Hand’ and ‘Smoke a Little Smoke’, it’s nice to see Church’s softer side come out every now and then.

Perhaps, this song is one of the most personal to Church, and is the only song in his career that he had no part in writing. He’s mentioned in interviews that that song was her favourite and she’s the reason he recorded it.   His wife gave birth to their son Boone McCoy in October of 2011, and says that she is “the glue the holds their family together”.

On a personal note, I really believe it’s the mark of a true artist who can sing songs on opposite ends of the spectrum such as ‘Creepin’ and ‘Sinners Like Me’. Much like, Miranda Lambert who can belt out songs like ‘Gunpowder and Lead’, then sing one such as ‘Over You’. These artists make it believable and real. That’s what country music is all about.

Church is criss-crossing Canada this month on his first headlining tour north of the border. The tour kicked off last night in Abbotsford, BC and will continue to rock right through all the way to Ontario.  If you don’t have you tickets yet, I suggest you get them before this tour sells out completely.

While there isn’t an official video yet, we dug up this fan video on YouTube from one of his performances on the Grand Ole Opry. Him and a guitar – the way the song was meant to be played.
