This week’s Pick of the Week is Bobby Wills‘ new single “Crazy Enough”, check out our Q&A with him below to learn more about his latest single, songwriting and what you can expect from his upcoming album.
TC: What was the songwriting process for “Crazy Enough” like?
BW: It almost always starts with the morning coffee discussion; we got into the “I’m lucky I survived my teenage years..” discussion and the title jumped out and we decided to chase it. I’m glad we did.
TC: What’s a specific line or lyric from it that you particularly love?
BW: I love the line – “I don’t back up and I don’t back down” – just a fun line that feels right.
TC: Who are some of your favourite songwriters?
BW: There are so many great writers in our industry, my favourite writer to work with is Michael Pyle, he’s also the producer and has had a HUGE influence on our sound. There are so many others that have had influence on me – Walt Aldridge, Deric Ruttan, Byron Hill – to name a few.
TC: Are there any words that you hate using in songs?
BW: Not really, I don’t think other than swearing anything is ruled out in advance. I always figure if you need to cuss in a song you haven’t tried hard enough.
TC: “Crazy Enough” is a little edgier, can we expect the rest of the album to be similar in sound?
BW: This project is the most musically diverse I have ever been a part of. We wanted to stretch both writing and sound wise, so I’m not sure if the right expression is “edgier” but its different than anything we have done before.
Tune into Bobby’s Live at The Edison CMT special on Monday, March 17, 2014.
